Travel Talk Radio Program this week |
October 31, 2002 -- San Diego, CA -- Travel
Talk RadioTM announced today that archives and photos
of the Norfolk, VA Conventions and Visitors Bureau tour are now ONLINE
at the new TravelTalkRadio.com Web site. On October 20th,
Travel Talk Radio host, Sandy Dhuyvetter, traveled to Norfolk, VA to
produce the LIVE remote program which aired on San Diego AM station KFMB
and was streamed worldwide. Before broadcasting the program Dhuyvetter
and Program Director, Patrick Peartree, were guided on a two-day,
whirlwind, red carpet tour of the Norfolk city center and the
surrounding neighborhoods, including picturesque Ghent with it's turn of
the century homes adorning The Hague. The Stockley Gardens Fall Arts
Festival was also among the many stops on this historic tour that wouldn’t
have been complete without a visit to the fabled Do-Nut Dinette and
coffee at Elliot's, two local Ghent favorites.
If you wish your children to grasp the importance of the rich history of
the United States, Norfolk is a must! This city has grown from its
historic military roots into a thriving deep-water port and commerce
center. It has witnessed battles in the War of 1812 and the Civil War.
Situated in the heart of Norfolk, the many museums, memorials and
science centers (such as the fabulous Naticus and the mighty battleship
USS Wisconsin gracefully tethered at the city’s waterfront), clearly
connect the people, the military and the sea. Walter Chrysler, son of
the automaker and gifted art collector, left a treasured wealth of art
and culture to the residents and visitors of Norfolk. The Chrysler
Museum of Art, a beautiful yet bold monument, sits on the Hague
waterfront and is easily one of the top ten art Museums in the US. The
colorfully rich walls of the Chrysler display modern day greats,
impressionists and a myriad of artistic periods. The collection includes
Renoir, Gaugin, Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollack and glass artisan William
Morris whose glass sculpted creations will strike the viewer with awe
and wonder. In fact, the glass collection alone at the Chrysler is
world-renowned.
Sailing the three-masted schooner, the American Rover, on the Hampton Roads, dining at Magnolia Steakhouse, and a visit to Domos Sushi with Admiral Jack Kavanaugh of the "USS Whiskey" and his wonderful wife and friends all made this weekend very, very special. We were also happily introduced to the finest Virginia wines during the annual Norfolk Wine Festival held at the gorgeous downtown waterfront park, Towne Point.
Norfolk's deep history, sweet southern hospitality and undaunted pride in the civic community make this destination one the most delightful US choices available. Southwest Airlines currently has some outstanding deals for getting to Norfolk, even as low as $128 one way coast to coast (to/from San Diego via PHX)!
We want to particularly thank Sam Martinette from the Norfolk CVB, who made us feel like we were family while visiting the wonderfully historic city of Norfolk, VA.
