-- Travel
Talk RadioTM announced today that Sandy Dhuyvetter,
executive producer and host of Travel Talk Radio will be on the
inaugural flight of the Afrinat International Airlines from New
York to the Gambia on Sept 30, 2002.
Afrinat International Airlines, a new West African air
carrier, will provide the only transatlantic service from the US via JFK
International Airport in New York City to four West African
Destinations: the Gambia, Ghana, Cote d"Ivorie and Cameroon. A
fifth destination, Sierra Leone will be added in the near future. The
inaugural flight will depart from JFK’s Terminal 4 on September 29,
actually 12:15 AM on September 30. The announcement was made by Sam
Ofori, President of Afrinat. This flight will commence a regularly
scheduled service of four departures a week. Alken Tours, based in
Brooklyn, New York, has been appointed the General Sales Agent in the US
for Afrinat.
"With the vacuum left by the demise of Air Afrique",
Sam Ofori, president of Afrinat International Airlines and a Ghanaian
said, "We wanted to be able to provide affordable and convenient
air service for both business and leisure passengers to promote tourism
and investment in West Africa. "The midnight departure enables
passengers from all points in the US to connect to Afrinat. The four
departures a week provides flexibility in a business traveler’s
schedule that may require him to extend his stay a day or two. The
frequency allows him to catch another flight without having to wait a
whole week."
It costs more for Americans to fly to West African
countries than it does for them to fly to Russia or China, yet flying
time to Banjul is only seven hours from New York City. "The
potential for this airlines to become the gateway to Africa is enormous,
said Sandy Dhuyvetter, executive producer and host of Travel Talk Radio.
I am very honored to be invited on the inaugural voyage of Afrinat
International Airlines and especially to meet the Gambia people and tour
regions of the Gambia. Promoting Cultural Understanding and Exchanges is
something we both share as companies and I am delighted to be able to be
amongst such VIP's aboard as --- His Excellency Ambassador Essa
Bokarr Sey." In addition, the arrival of the inaugural flight
will be met in Banjul by the president, other public officials and
leaders of the travel industry in the Gambia.
Travel Agent Commissions
Afrinat will market to the consumer and the travel agent community. The
Airline will encourage travel agents to sell the flights by offering
them commissions and travel agent educational trips to visit West Africa
and gain first-hand knowledge of the destinations.
