More than a Free Lunch plus an Opportunity to Help

Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?  While the vittles may not be free, there's lots more to be had for free this month around the San Francisco Bay region.

In San Francisco....
Folks who enjoy outdoor concerts should reserve all their Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes for the free events happening in downtown San Francisco.  The lovely Yerba Buena Gardens host a series of concerts from noon to 1:30PM every Thursday this month (www.ybgf.org).  For six weeks (September through October) every Wednesday at noon, Levi Plaza  will be alive with the sounds of jazz music (www.sfjazz.org/concerts/outdoors.html).

Shakespeare buffs will want to head out to the Presidio for "Much Ado About Nothing", the free offering from the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, performed Saturdays and Sundays during September at the Presidio.  This is a traveling show that previously ran this summer throughout the Bay Area. (www.sfshakes.org).

Down the coast...
For temporal art enthusiasts like myself, The Pacific Fog Fest offers the quintessential experience:  a sand castle contest, parade, foot races and live entertainment...all for free the weekend of September 24-25th. It's also a great opportunity to sample some of the locally-produced  microbrewed ale. (www.pacificcoastfogfest.com)

How travelers can help Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts...
Southwest Airlines has created an innovative way travelers can aid folks displaced by Katrina's wrath.   It has established a "flight bank" of donated Rapid Rewards Awards that is dedicated to assisting those displaced by Hurricane Katrina and needing transportation to reunite with family or to relocate. The donated Awards also will be used to assist those involved with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Southwest will be distributing the donated tickets at Evacuee locations throughout Texas. The airline is working with the Red Cross to identify locations that house those affected by Hurricane Katrina and to recognize those who have been diligently working on relief efforts.

Customers can donate their Rapid Rewards Awards (except for one-way credits) by visiting http://www.southwest.com and accessing their Rapid Rewards account page via MySouthwest.  Members will be required to complete and submit a donation form for each Award contributed. Southwest Rapid Rewards Members can donate their Awards until Oct. 15, 2005.
