SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

It might not be the only way to fly, but it is the best way to fly!

Good day and welcome to this week’s TravelTalkRADIO Newsletter. Today we are publishing two statements, one from the Department of Homeland Security and the other from Gary Murphy, President of BRENDAN Worldwide Vacations. BRENDAN is a well known, family-owned tour company that has been in the travel business for over 35 years.

Please read both as they offer important information that will help you make good decisions when you travel. TravelTalkRADIO is committed to connecting its audiences to the experts in the travel industry. Please join us for one of our best shows ever on Sunday morning from noon to 2pm Eastern on your favorite radio station or go to  www.TraveTalkRADIO.com and listen online.

GUIDANCE FOR AIRLINE PASSENGERS

Raised Threat Levels:
Ψ
The U.S. threat level is raised to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights flying from the United Kingdom to the U.S.
Ψ
The U.S. threat level is raised to High, or Orange for all commercial aviation operating in the U.S., including international flights. Flights from the U.S. to the U.K. are also Orange.

Increased Aviation Screening Procedures:
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be implementing a series of security measures – some visible and some not visible -- to ensure the security of the traveling public and the Nation's transportation system.

TSA
is immediately implementing following changes to airport screening procedures

Ψ        NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY ON BAGGAGE. SUCH ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
Exception: Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling; prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket; and insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines, which all must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

Ψ
Beverages purchased in the boarding area (beyond the checkpoint) must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted on board the aircraft.
Ψ
Passengers traveling from the U.K. to the U.S. will be subject to a more extensive screening process.

These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant.

How every passenger can assist in security:
Ψ
Pack lightly, without clutter to facilitate easier screening
Ψ
Arrive earlier than usual at the airport
Ψ
Cooperate with TSA personnel at checkpoints and with airline personnel at all gates
Ψ
Increased Border Protection Procedures:
Ψ        U.S. Customs and Border Protection will increase enforcement efforts in international arrival areas including the use of advanced targeting tools, special response teams including baggage and aircraft search teams, baggage x-ray equipment, specially-trained canine units, and explosive detection technology.
Ψ
DHS has also mandated that all flights from the U.K. transmit passenger manifest information for intensive screening prior to departure from the gate.  In addition, passengers on these flights and all other international flights will be subject to heightened inspection upon arrival in the U.S.

Gary Murphy, President of BRENDAN Worldwide Vacations.
Obviously, with the recent developments in London, everyone is concerned about their travel arrangements and the safety of traveling.  We at Brendan are monitoring security advisements relating to both domestic and international travel.  It is still safe to travel and we have seen nothing to shake our belief in that fact.  People continue to enjoy their vacations this summer and will continue to do so.

Needless to say, Brendan and its affiliated suppliers strongly believe that one of the best responses to the recent news is to move forward with our lives in every way possible. If we bend to the fear, then they will have won a victory, and that is exactly how Brendan is going to deal with the current situation.  I know that Sandy shares the same view and will be providing all the relevant details to her loyal listeners.

Have fun traveling this summer.

Gary Murphy,
President and CEO
Brendan Worldwide Vacations
