Welcome to this weeks TravelTalkRADIO newsletter.
We have been honored this week to host two dear friends from Nanjing, China: Guo Chengtao, supervisor of the Travel Radio division of JiangSu Broadcasting Corporation, and Ruoyi Liu, Travel Radios head reporter and editor.
I met first Ruoyi when the TravelTalkRADIO crew was
in Nanjing with the World
Trade University two
years ago.
|

Guo Chengtao, Supervisor of JiangSu Broadcasting Corporation, and Ruoyi Liu, Travel Radios head reporter
and editor, Patrick Peartree, Sandy Dhuyvetter
and Annabel Detavernier from TravelTalkRADIO.
|
We had a wonderful first exchange when she and her crew asked if I would record a few Chinese words for their listeners. It turned out to be one of most enjoyable afternoons of the trip as we all shared many laughs.
While I was in Nanjing, I also had the opportunity to visit the tomb of the late Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, a very beloved Chinese leader who is often regarded as the George Washington of China. In Chinese history he is known as "The Father of the Revolution" or "The Father of the Republic." In the West he is considered the most important figure in Chinese history in the twentieth century. As a revolutionary, he lived most of his life working tirelessly for nationalism, democracy, and equalization. Despite his valiant efforts, at the time of his death in 1924 China was in ruins, torn by the anarchy and violence of competing warlords.
During his lifetime, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen studied in many cities in the USA including Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Hawaii. Hearing his story in Nanjing, I was captivated by this leaders wisdom and the great outpouring of love and respect for him by the Chinese people. Dr. Sun Yat-Sens story is a reminder that the two countries of China and the United States have much upon which to base a solid and growing relationship. In addition to his contributions in China, Sun Yat-Sen left a wonderful legacy in the United States. Many statues and plaques dedicated to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen can be found in almost every China Town community in the USA.
We continued to stay in touch with Ruoyi and over the last two years I have watched her grow from a young reporter to a very polished and credible presenter on radio. When Ruoyi recently contacted me and asked me to join JiangSu Broadcasting Corporation in celebrating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen by following along in his footsteps to visit the places in the United States where he was educated and lived, I jumped at the chance.
At the end of this month, TravelTalkRADIO and the Voice of Jiangsu Radio from Jiangsu Broadcasting will be present at the Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Foundation in Pasadena, California for a party to honor this renowned leader. At that time, both TravelTalkRADIO and JiangSu Broadcasting Corporation will present a plaque to the Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Foundation to honor the life of this special man at a festive occasion of cultural exchange.
This Sunday we are excited to bring you TravelTalkRADIO at its finest. Connecting you to the experts in every field of travel and preparing you for your next trip is exactly what we do best! Even if you are an armchair traveler, you will feel like you are actually there with us, because we take you everywhere we go.
Joining me this Sunday is DARLA COOK, Vice President of Public Relations for Forever Resorts. Forever Resorts has 43 properties across the US and in Africa and is getting bigger by the month! TravelTalkRADIO will be bringing you coverage of the Forever Resorts conference in mid-May from Scottsdale AZ. Also joining me is our good friend, MICHAEL STOLOWITZKY, President and CEO of the American Tourism Society. Michael is an amazing man who has devoted his life to tour and travel. I have had the pleasure of traveling with Michael to Jordan, Israel, Budapest, and Prague and we will soon journey together to Croatia in November as the American Tourism Society continues its important mission of bringing the world together. AL BACCARI, Author of Fisherman's Wharf will be on the show as we bring you TravelTalkRADIOs book of the week. We will be giving out several copies of this coffee table classic to our listeners during our Sunday broadcast. This is a very special book and a must if you live in the San Francisco area. Once again we are happy to welcome DAVID HEIDEL from Coastal Vacations to our programming. David will be live in the studio with me and well talk how you can create a home-based business allowing you to both travel AND make a living! The music of MARGRIT EICHLER, this weeks featured singer songwriter, will be celebrated throughout the show. Margrit is the leader of the True Margrit band. Well visit with her and let you tell us what you think about her music. Well have some of Margrits CDs available for giveaways as well. LYNNE RAOUF, Owner of the Raouf Hotels International in Sharm el Sheikh will join us as we talk about our upcoming trip to Egypt and the Mediterranean Travel Fair. Lynne is a dear friend and her story will inspire you to chase your dreams. And finally, but not in the least, is talented filmmaker, ROB KELLY, Owner of RAK Productions based in Los Angeles. We attended Robs private screening of his new movie HighTech Monorails at a huge Hollywood studio lot earlier this month. Talk about eye candy! One thing I will never understand is why monorails have never caught on in America after all these years. Are they finally ready to become the answer to skyrocketing fuel prices and the gridlock and mayhem on US freeways?
A reminder, TravelTalkRADIO will continue its work with the Department of Homeland Security and bring you more information about National Preparedness Month.
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage everyone to take simple steps to prepare their homes, businesses and schools for emergencies and disasters. National Preparedness Month 2006 is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The goal of this initiative is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action in advance of disasters.
TravelTalkTV - If you are in the Southern California area tomorrow (Saturday August 19) please watch my weekly travel news segment on Good Morning San Diego on KUSI Channel 9 TV between 8 and 9am Pacific when we discover the many hidden treasures of the historic Western town of Deadwood, high in the Black Hills of South Dakota! Safe travels,
Sandy Dhuyvetter

This week's music will celebrate True Margrit and their album called Seaworthy.
True
Margrit's
sound is
fueled by
singer/
songwriter/ piano-player Margrit
Eichler's
husky-sweet
alto, her
adventuresome
piano, and a
secret
weapon: the
muscular,
dynamic,
turn-on-a-dime
rhythm-section
of Gary Hobish on
bass and
Andrew Bacon
on
drums. Seaworthy
is fleshed
out with
touches of
guitar,
cello, oboe,
bassoon,
sax, and
flute by an
array of Bay
Area guest
stars
including
Pam Delgado
and Jeri
Jones (of
Blame
Sally).
