KATHLEEN J. GALAS, CTP, CTIS

President
Manitowoc Area
Visitor & Convention Bureau
Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Port for the SS Badger Carferry
and home to the largest maritime
museum on the great lakes.

Manitowoc is a thriving and prosperous community and recognized worldwide as the manufacturer of spectacular yachts. It is also the sole Wisconsin port for the S.S. Badger, the only upscale passenger vessels still sailing on the Great Lakes.

Our area's greatest resource is, of course, our people. Manitowoc takes great pride in it strong tradition of friendliness and caring. It is with this spirit that we welcome you to Manitowoc… Wisconsin's Maritime Capitol!

Indians called us "Mundeowk, Home of the Good Spirit" because of our beautiful harbors and rivers. Around the year 1673, French trappers discovered our bountiful offerings and, in 1795, the Northwest Fur Company incorporated a trading post. As building began, many people of Bohemian, French, German, Irish, Norwegian and Polish descent settled in the area.
Manitowoc was officially founded in 1836. In 1839, the county government was formed and the first courthouse followed a year later. Early county commissioners authorized the first roads to connect the farms and settlements of the area.

Consider putting your emergency information in your cell phone.

In case of emergency : ICE

Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your cell phone NOW!

Please pass this one along

NOTE:  This is authentic according to urbanlegends.about.com  but watch  out for the following hoax:

'ICE' Campaign Targeted in Virus Hoax:  False warnings are circulating which claim that adding "ICE" entries to one's cell phone make it vulnerable to a virus attack or hidden charges. Experts say these warnings should be ignored.

ravel is a catalyst for creating communication, peace, and commerce among the countries
and communities of the world. It's difficult to fight with a culture where you have shared a glass of refreshment,
visited their neighborhoods and experienced their customs. And besides its really fun to get out there and jump on a train,
bus or plane, walk into a new environment,
taste new interesting food and talk with the locals. Building memories that are packed
with experiences of extraordinary places, great people and exciting events are at
