Peter Mwenguo has been with the Tanzania Tourist Board since 1993, when he became Director of Marketing. He has been serving as Managing Director since 1999. In his capacity as chief promoter of tourism, Mr. Mwenguo is pleased to see Tanzania emerging as one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in Africa, and today Tanzania tourism is booming, registering a tremendous growth in terms of both arrivals as well as revenues.

 In 2004 Mr. Mwenguo was a guest speaker on tourism at the Harvard Business School’s annual conference on Africa.

 

 

Prior to his Prior to his career in Tourism, Mr. Mwenguo has a career history of more than 30 years.  He rose from the rank and file as an Assistant Sales Manager of a government import firm in 1972, then to Lecturer in Marketing at the College of Business Education in Tanzania between 1974 to 1979.

 In 1980, Mr. Mwenguo left the teaching career to join yet another government institution, the Board of External Trade, which is responsible for promoting the country’s export products.

Consul Arie Sommer, a veteran of the Israel Government's Ministry of Tourism, was nominated Commissioner for Tourism for North and South America, starting October 2005. This is Mr. Sommer's second  appointment to the New York Office, where he served as Israel's Commissioner for Tourism in North America and Mexico between 1996-2001.

In his 38-year career with the Ministry of Tourism, he has represented Israel as Director of the Israel Government Tourist Offices in
Atlanta, Houston and Los Angeles, and has served as Director of Overseas Offices and Operations at the Ministry's Jerusalem headquarters. Prior to his present appointment he served as Deputy Director of Marketing Administration.

Arie Sommer was responsible for organizing the first-ever convention of Jordanian and Israeli Travel Agents in Israel in December 1994, as well as the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's historic Conference on Peace Tourism in September 1995.

 In the United States he has overseen Israel's 50th Anniversary and Millennium tourism campaigns, and was responsible for Israel's recognition of American and Canadian efforts to build tourism to Israel with the creation of the 50th Anniversary Travel and Tourism Awards.

In 1999 he was chosen the "Middle East Destination - Person of the Year" by Travel Agent Magazine.

A graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Arie Sommer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations. He also studied English at Cambridge University, England, and completed a two-year hotel management course at the Tadmor Hotel School in Herzliya, Israel. He was a member of the Israeli delegation at the momentous peace treaty discussions with Jordan in 1994.

Greg Niemann graduated with a degree in journalism from California State University, Los Angeles, and is an accredited business communicator. He was a public relations manager and publications editor with United Parcel Service for over 30 years before he retired. Niemann was president of both the Los Angeles and Orange County chapters of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and was named Communicator of the Year by that organization. He has also served on the board of directors of the Outdoor Writers Association of California (OWAC). He has been a newspaper columnist and still contributes regularly to several publications.

 Presently, Niemann is on staff of the San Clemente Journal, writing the Baja Beat column and a travel column featuring and other desert destinations. Most of his articles are travel- or Baja-related, including a series on the Baja missions along with numerous fishing and off-road racing articles.

Niemann’s previous books include Baja Fever and Baja Legends, which focuses on the characters, events, and locations that put Baja California on the map. Baja Legends was published in 2003, won an award from the Outdoor Writers Association of California, and is in its second printing.

A popular speaker, Niemann has presented numerous slide shows and/or book signings at venues including: Barnes & Noble, Borders, Costco, Discover Baja Travel Club; Distant Lands Travel Club, BookExpo America, and the Los Angeles Festival of Books. He is a member of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library, the Palm Springs Historical Society, the Palm Springs Desert Museum, and The Living Desert in Palm Desert. He enjoys hiking in the local palm canyons and preserves and strolling around the village of Palm Springs.
