Top 40 Under 40
Frank Marini, Vice President of Sales for Collette Vacations

Frank has recently been recognized as one of the “top 40 people under 40” in the travel industry. He’ll tell us about a truly genius idea: Collette has gathered feedback from travel agents all across the US, woven that info into its travel brochures and bound it all together into a great quick agent reference guide called the Big Book. We’ll also talk about the resurgence in the popularity of legacy destinations, heightened interest in travel to the Holy Land and the MENA region, Collette’s cancellation policy (best in the business), and why you deserve have “black car” treatment on your next big vacation.

Sandy developed this short video for Collette Vacations. If you are intrigued with this amazing feat and what this village of Oberammergau does every ten years, you must view and see for yourself. It is amazing. Once you decide to book your trip, call Collette Vacations or see your Travel Agent.

Africa’s California

Sam Nhairy, President of Morocco Destination Management

We spend some quality time with “our brother,” Sam Nhairy, aka “Our Man in Morocco” and we’ll talk about the Moroccan Travel Market we attended together last month in Marrakech. This predominantly Arab and Muslim nation is a long time ally of the United States. In fact, did you know that Morocco was the first foreign nation to recognize the US a sovereign state clear back in 1777? Bottom line: You really haven’t lived until you’ve shopped in the sprawling bazaar in Marrakech and spent a night in a luxury bivouac at Couleurs Berbers at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It’s only about a 6.5 hours from JFK. What are you waiting for?

Ghana Go Crazy for Chocolate!

Julius Debrah, Executive Director of the Ghana Tourist Board in Accra

Cocoa beans are one of the most abundant and cherished crops grown in Ghana. So naturally, the chocolate made there can definitely stand toe to toe with the Belgians where, ironically, cocoa beans don’t grow at all! Find out more about National Chocolate Day in Ghana coming up on February 14th. (Yes, it’s on Valentine’s Days, guys!)

The Way Life Should Be

Wanda Radetti, President and Founder of Tasteful Croatian Holidays

We’ll spend some time with Croatia’s Top Destination Specialist (four years in a row!) as we get our much overdue “Wanda fix.” We’ll talk about why we agree that Zagreb, the capital city, truly represents “the way life should be.” Sure, the blue aquamarine beaches along the stunning Croatian coastline are great, but don’t miss out on the fragrance of the lavender in that air as you sip an espresso (or a beer) in Zagreb’s central marketplace. Locked behind the Iron Curtain for decades, Croatia and its neighbors have cheerfully swung the gate wide open and hung up a big welcome sign.

Black Travel Writers Come In All Colors

Kitty J. Pope, Executive Director of the International Association of Black Travel Writers

Kitty joins us to talk about the IABTW and why it’s important to have a “black oriented” travel writing association. Black culture, history and heritage as well as the African Diaspora are, of course, frequent subjects. Even so, the IABTW does have at least one member who is not actually black. That’s because the association is open to anyone of any race, any color. After all, as Kitty explains, “black history is everybody’s history.”
