PIET JENSEN

Director of US operation,
Marketing Director,
Rancho La Puerta Fitness
Resort & Spa
Peter Jensen began his
career 34 years ago as a
travel/outdoor adventure
writer at Sunset
magazine. He worked on
staff at Sunset both in
Los Angeles and Menlo
Park as Associate Editor
for a decade, and while
there broadened his
reporting to include
architecture and home
improvement.
For 13 years he was the
editor of a popular
shelter magazine in San
Diego: San Diego
Home/Garden magazine.
The magazine still
thrives today after 27
years. |

After leaving his editor
position, while working
as a freelance writer
from 1993 to 2003,
Jensen was a regular
contributor to numerous
magazines, local and
national. He contributed
regularly to Sunset,
Coastal Living, This Old
House, San Diego
Home/Garden and other
consumer and trade
publications
specializing in travel,
sports, automobiles,
architecture, city
planning, and home
design topics. His
photographs, taken while
on assignment, often
accompanied his
articles.
He is also the author of -- or
contributor to -- over a dozen books on
natural history and travel destinations
in the West. He has written three books
on San Diego. His latest hardcover work
is Californiaa joint project with
famed Seattle-based photographer Art
Wolfe (Sasquatch Books; Seattle; 2002).
He has also contributed to numerous
travel guidebooks published by Sasquatch
and Insight Guides.
His newest challenge is his marketing,
advertising and public relations work
for Rancho La Puerta, the luxury
destination spa founded in 1940 in
Tecate, Baja California, Mexico just 1
hour and 15 minutes from Del Mar, where
Jensen lives today. Jensen heads up the
6,500-guests-a-year resorts U.S.
operation, which includes marketing,
reservations, and accounting services.
Since moving here in 1980, Jensen has
lived in the Del Mar Heights
neighborhood of San Diego, California,
with his wife Janeen. They have two
grown sons. Active in the community, he
currently is the President of the Torrey
Pines Association, which helps protect
and preserve the world-famous Torrey
Pines State Reserve, home of North
Americas rarest pine tree.
For recreation (or is it work?) he
enjoys hiking, canoeing, photography,
basketball, home remodeling and
improvement projects, and sailing on
their familys Downeast 54 in the Sea of
Cortez. |

March 5, 2006
Rancho La Puerta,
founded by Edmond and
Deborah Szekely, is the
original destination
fitness resort and spa
family-founded, -owned

guests enjoy the very
best resort spa
experience, shaped by
expertise developed over
65 years.
Each week, some 150
guests share 3,000 acres
of mountains and meadows
beneath 3,885 Mount
Kuchumaa. The peak
straddles the
U.S.-Mexico border, and
Native Americans
consider its slopes and

so much so that it was
the first geographic

NEW ORLEANS SIDE TRIP
During the American Bus Association meeting in Nashville, Sandy was approached by businessman and restaurateur Jerry Fein from the Court of Two Sisters Restaurant in the French Quarters, New Orleans. Jerry asked Sandy to come to New Orleans and tell the true story of recovery. He and many of the travel industry suppliers from the Gulf Coast believe that mainstream media are ignoring New Orleans's resilience and resurgence. Sandy was asked to come into town and report the present state of tourism.
Sandy and Patrick packed up a day early and did what they felt was the right thing. They went to New Orleans to see for themselves. What they found was nothing is stopping the New Orleans's spirit, nothing!. Photos, interviews and a special report will be published this upcoming week.
