Being
Australian,
Jacquie
grew up
imagining
she
would
one day
have an
opportunity
to
travel.
A 22
week
overland
trip in
Africa
was her
first
overseas
jaunt
and
travel
seemed
to have
been in
her
blood
ever
since.
After
Africa,
Jacqui
was off
with a
one-way
ticket
to Nepal
from
London
and
would
backpack
westwards
back to
Europe
overland
via
India,
Pakistan,
Iran,
Turkey
and
wherever
she
could
get to
with the
meager
funds
she had
saved
for the
trip.
Basing
herself
in
London
with
Europe
on her
doorstep,
Jacqui
spent a
lovely
couple
of years
popping
back and
forth to
the
Continent
and
exploring
to her
hearts
content.
In 1994
Jacqui discovered
Intrepid Travel when
she was employed to
be a Tour Leader in
Asia. This was the
beginning of her
working life in
tourism rather than
as a traveler. And
what a time it has
been..

For
almost three years
Jacqui shared
experiences with
Intrepid travelers
in Indonesia,
Malaysia, Thailand
and Vietnam before
hanging up her
(fulltime) trekking
boots to work out of Intrepids
HQ in
Melbourne.
With
time
spent in
several
different
jobs and
departments
(and
lots of
shorter
than she
was
accustomed
to trips
to
exotic
destinations)
and
after
some
post-grad
study,
Jacqui
headed
offshore
to start
up
Intrepids
Sales and Marketing
office in the US.
Whilst you are now
more likely to find
her exploring
Yosemite National
Park or the Rockies,
the travel bug has
firmly taken hold
and it doesn't look
like shaking it any
time soon

Using my wine
glass as a
lense, I stood
on the grounds
of
Michel-Schlumberger
Winery and
peered at the
sun-dappled
ridges of the
Dry Creek
Valley. A W.C.
Fields-ism
came to mind:
I cook with
wine, he was
purportedly to
have said,
and sometimes
I even put
some in my
food. My
sentiments
exactly, I
murmured into
my glass,
munching on
another bit of
walnut and
thyme crusted
roast pork
tenderloin.
Making my
pilgrimage to
the Sonoma
County wine
region during
the first
weekend of
November is
now a yearly
ritual. One
that I share
with legions
of other wine
lovers who
also look
forward to
this slice of
Northern
California
bacchanalia.
Over fifty
wineries in
the Russian
River,
Alexander and
Dry Creek
Valleys host
special
wine/food
tastings
during the
Wine & Food
Affair. This
colossal
wine-a-thon
draws a lively
crowd,
attracted to
the incredible
fall color
display, wide
range of
available
wines and
intriguing
food
samplings.
When my Wine &
Food Affair
brochure
arrived I was
transfixed
between joy
and agony. Do
I dare miss
