Hi Sandy, Hope things are going great with your business.

I thought of you tonight as I am trying to book a trip to NY (where my family and I have never been). I have a show I need to attend, and am not much of a traveler. So I am having my family come as support. Only problem is that I have found that hotels are very expensive and my husband is not much of a big city kind of person. He will have the kids (7 and 4) for the 2 days while I am at the show (Javits Center). I am trying to keep him happy and busy while I am doing the show, but have also heard that NY is a very busy city and you really have to watch your kids. Would you have any suggestions on where to stay that would be good for kids? I don’t mind taking a bus or train or subway into the city, if I know the kids and hubby will be safe and having fun while I am working. We are only planning to stay for 5-6 nights. And depending on where we stay, may drive to PA, Boston or DC for a day trip. Since you are the expert, I was hoping to get some tips from you, if you don’t mind my asking.
I was planning to book everything tonight, but think I will wait until tomorrow. I want to make a good choice for my family first, and then me second. Does that make any sense? Looking for a good price and the best family safe place to stay. Whatever suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

Great to hear from you.

First off, I think you will find NY a wonderful city even for your family.

There is a Mariott Hotel that is not too far from the Javitz Center and would make a great central place for all of you to call home for the week.

I also have a company that I work with called Metro-Home. This is an interesting way to travel - you can rent an apt that is fully furnished, washer dryer, kitchen cable.

You will find the pricing really competitive and you can pick out the district you want to stay at. You can explain to them where your show is and they can hook you up with something appropriate. Their phone number is: 800.987.1235 You can ask them about a great area for the family. They will help you choose.

I like this arrangement because you are now a New Yorker living in New York! I have used them personally twice and it is so much fun. On every corner, you will find grocery stores, restaturants etc. It's a great experience.

I found NY to be fun, safe and police are so friendly. I know you will have a ball.

We are working on getting stations to pick us up all over the country (world) if you have a favorite talk stations, let us know and we will knock on their doors.

And finally Jet lag problems. We have been given a product that is totally natural and made in Sweden. I will send you samples so that you can see if you like something like this. Please send me your address and we will get this in the mail to you asap.

Personally, I sleep as much as I can on the plane. I eat very little and I drink as much water as possible. I try to get my mind in a meditative state so that I can relax as much as possible. From the clothing that I wear to small soft pillow that makes me feel close to my own bed are what make me travel the best. I also get lots of exercise. I am an exercise nut and feel like it attributes to my entire health and well being.

It was great to hear from you! Yes, we left KFMB because we wanted to syndicate our program and grow beyond what they could offer us. We are now being distributed by talkstar radio network out of Florida. They have a very interesting concept and even though it is a very new channel for us, we are very happy with the service and attention they are giving our program. We are on in 7 other radio stations around the country but not yet in San Diego. I am sure we will get there soon. But the good news is that you can hear us online every Sunday from 9 - 11am pacific time on the Web at www.TravelTalkRADIO.com and click into This Week's Program. I hope you check out the online streaming, I think you will be very impressed. It sounds like regular radio!

If you want a great spa day for you and girl friend there are many to choose from here in Southern Ca and Baja.
How much did you want to spend and what kind of spa do you like? The La Costa http://www.lacosta.com/ in Carlsbad is incredible, Deepak Chopra has a center there and is fantastic if you like to do some mind body soul wellness!

Can you recommend travel programs where teachers get compensated for travel/community service? I will like to take along my 16 year old son as well. What a terrific way to spend your summer with your son. There are many programs out there for foreign based travel but unfortunately, doing this in the US is harder to find.

I'm interested in knowing if you recommend the Sanoviv after your stay. I'm thinking about going for lap-band surgery and health retreat. Do you recommend the health retreat? Does it look like a clean- well run facility?

Hi Cindy,
I have been to Sanoviv 3 times and have always been very impressed. I have met many of the doctors and I would highly recommend using the facilities. They are extremely clean as they do not have any toxins anywhere in the area and their water system is purified there on the property. NASA did research in the area and came up with the fact that there is a sort of vortex right there on the coast and they say it has some of the best air quality too.
You will be impressed. Please let me know if you decide to go.
