Cruising the Nile on the Nile Cruisers,
often referred to as floating hotels.
The Nile is the longest river in the world (over 4,000 miles). The Nile cruise was really the only way to visit the temples and tombs located along this stretch of the river. Nile cruises may vary considerably, but typical Nile cruise is 3 nights 4 days. The cruises usually operate between Luxor where major ruins and the original capital of Egypt are and Aswan where the Aswan Dam is built on the Nile.
It is common to find video movies each night, and some boats are equipped with cameras allowing passengers to view the countryside from their TV. Floating hotels.
Day trips from the boat are easily planned as the boats offer tour guides and contacts to guides who can take you either in large or small groups.
Most all boats have good modern water filtration, which is fine for showering, but it is still recommended to drink bottled water, which the boat will have aboard. Most cruise boats operate all year. If the locks are closed, cruise operators will arrange boats on either side of the locks, and a transfer must be made between boats.
The better boats have most the
accommodations of a land based hotel,
including:
small swimming pools,
hot tubs,
exercise rooms,
nightclubs,
good restaurants,
stores and
even small libraries,
private baths,
air conditioning, and
TVs.
When it comes to pricing, there is a large range based on both the boat and the accommodations. Some boats have suites available. Expect decent boats to range in price between about $55.00 USD to almost $300.00 USD per night, with seasonal increases of between 25% to 50% during Christmas and Easter.

The Nile has two tributaries, the White Nile and Blue Nile, the former being the longer of the two. The White Nile rises in the Great Lakes region of central Africa, with the most distant source in southern Rwanda, and flows north from there through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and southern Sudan, while the Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana in Ethiopia, flowing into Sudan from the east. The two sections meet near Khartoum.
The northern section of the river flows almost entrely through desert, from Sudan into Egypt, a country whose civilization has depended on the river since ancient times. Most of the population of Egypt and all of its cities, with the exception of those near the coast, lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan; and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along the banks of the river. The Nile ends in a large delta that flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
